The Struthers LadyCat varsity bowling squad travelled to Warren, Ohio and Freeway Lanes on Sunday, February 7, 2021 to participate in the OHSAA Sectional tournament. Thirteen schools would vie for 4 spots to advance to the District tournament. The format is 3 team games and 6 Baker games. Total pin count would be deciding score.
In game1, the LadyCats opened in a 4th place position, with a 710 team game and 60 pins above the cut. Madison Stanton led the way with a 179, followed by Karla Martinez’ 153. Hailey DeGenaro rolled a 135, with Mary Williams one pin behind with a 134. Mackinzie Allen added a 109. The Lady Cats maintained their position with a 769 in game2. Madison Stanton tallied a team leading 195. Mary Williams rolled a 155 followed closely by Karla Martinez’ 150. Mackinzie Allen notched a 147, and Hailey DeGenaro a 122. At 1479, the LadyCats found themselves only 33 pins out of third place, and expanded their lead on the field to 236 pins. In game3, the LadyCats rolled a 754 game, paced again by Madison Stanton and her 222. Mackinzie Allen followed with her 143 and Mary Williams a 140. Karla Martinez bowled a 127, and Hailey DeGenaro a 122. Out of 46 bowlers in the field, Madison Stanton’s 596 was good for achieving 2nd place overall. Karla Martinez was next highest for the LadyCats with a 430, and a tie at 15th place. Mary Williams followed by 1 pin, at 429 and 17th place. Mackinzie Allen’s 399 placed her 22nd ,and Hailey DeGenaro’s 379, placed her 25th. Going into the baker round, the LadyCats were 4th behind Hubbard, Liberty and Girard. Throughout the Baker round, the standings remained unchanged. The LadyCats posted a 935 Baker set with games of 155, 169 ,165, 179, 140, & 127, for a total score of 3168, and securing their spot in the District tournament at Rebman Lanes in Lorain, Ohio on Saturday 2/20.
