The Struthers Wildcat bowling squads travelled to Boardman Lanes on Sunday, 2/9/2020, to start the trail that leads to the state tournament, by participating in the OHSAA Sectionals. The format, a 3 team game, and 6 Baker game total pinfall event. The top 4 teams would advance to Districts.
For the boys, in game1, they rolled a 845, led by Jared Medvec’s 200, and a 4th place opening position. In Game2, Johnny Morris paced with a 203 in an 842 team effort. Medvec led the way again in game3 as he rolled a 199, as the team managed a 840 game. The 2527 team game set placed the Cats in 3rd place behind leader Girard (2911), and Labrae (2646), and just ahead of Lordstown (2513). Jared Medvec led the day as he rolled to a 556 set (200, 157, 199). Brandon Fulytar was next with his 537 set (195, 192, 150). Johnny Morris followed with a 512 (142, 203, 167). Individual games were added by Nick Peskor (157, 174), Sean Lane (155), and Kolten Blough (153). In Bakers, the Cats made their move as they rolled a 1205 Baker set. The first two games were 189 and 204, cutting the advantage by Labrae in half. Games 3 & 4, saw games of 214, and 192, and saw the Cats take over 2nd place. Their final games of 170 & 236, solidified their hold on second place, and punched their ticket to Districts, joining Girard(1st), Lordstown (3rd), and Labrae (4th). The tournament roster also included freshman, Brennan Baber who came in during Bakers.
Next for the Wildcats on the tournament trail, a road trip to Avon Lake, Ohio, and Nautical Lanes for the OHSAA Districts, with a trip to State at stake. The Boys will compete at noon on Sunday 2/16/20, while the girls will look for their opportunity on Monday 2/17/2020. In order to advance to state, the Cats must finish in the top 4 in the same format as was contested at Sectionals.
